The New Family Pet Project

Famster So Famster (a social networking site for your own family) just launched an IM feature with parental controls today. I had no idea that Famster even existed, and maybe it's just that I'm a sucker for their hamster logo, but I think this is great. Here's the lowdown:

Famster members can blog, share photos and video, create virtual scrapbooks, keep track of dates and addresses, instant message, email and more, all in a private environment.

Seems like a great one-stop-shop for a tech-savvy fam, and I like the security measures so your family's info is private. It could be super-convenient for sharing photos with Grandma and keeping soccer games and playdates straight. Plus if you have older kids, it'd be fun to enlist their help in setting up features like your own family tree, recipes, and scrapbooks. I might just have to get a Famster of my very own!

I have a family web site at Famster. While I love the:
- Private online networking space for your family and friends,
- Lack of advertising,
- Easiest-to-use blogging tool, and
- Unlimited space for photos and videos
I am frustrated by some of the “obvious” things they can do to make the site more intuitive and user- and visitor-friendly.

That’s why I’ve launched my blog at http://www.ILoveFamster.com.

Through it, I share what I think is both fabulous and frustrating about Famster. If you are a current, former, or potential Famster user, stop by and share your thoughts.
