Super Size Your Cupcake!
It was bound to happen sooner or later (and I have say I'm glad it happened sooner rather than later). The cupcake has become a cake! How totally awesome. Wilton has just come out with this pan and I think it looks easier to make than regular ones.
Look here:
You just bake it in two pieces and slam it together! Link thanks to the amazing not martha.

Ok, I really want to get this pan, but know I'm going to be disappointed in my cake decorating abilities! Please help!!
Posted by: Sara | July 29, 2007 at 09:12 PM
Sara I'm not sure my cake decorating skills qualify me to answer (er, at all) but here's my thought: If you want to make it look like the pic, you'd probably only need one piping thing (just a plain round one--I think you can buy icing with the tips at the grocery store these days) and the big "sprinkles" totally look like Necco wafers. Just pick out the pretty ones! HTH

I really want to get this -- but how do you think you cut it?
Posted by: Megan | July 30, 2007 at 11:02 AM
How & where do I buy one of these?!
Posted by: Roxie | September 08, 2007 at 09:40 PM
Very Cute! Where can I buy one?
Posted by: Paula | September 12, 2007 at 09:55 AM
just click on the highlighted word "pan" it will bring you directly to "sur la table" where you can buy one!

I discovered if you go to www.wilton.com they give you step-by-step decorating directions. You just need to select the big cupcake from the pull down menu and a PDF will open. They have a variety of ways to do it too depending on the occasion and/or flavor.

Way too cute! I want it!
Posted by: Teresa | September 13, 2007 at 11:21 PM
You know the candies on top really do look like necco wafers (previously said), but I think a great topping would be those little melting chocolates ...they look just like that and come in so many colors.
Posted by: Namsmom | September 14, 2007 at 07:49 AM
The candies on top are supersize confetti quinns available at Walmart and most cake supply stores.

How would you get cake out of pan? Seems they should of designed bottom of cake to be the other way around and not connected? It should be the way you want it when you flip out of pan? Bet it's not that easy .....but very CUTE!
Posted by: Nora Soto | September 14, 2007 at 10:39 PM
Nora-you are looking at it wrong. You bake the cake in 2 pieces and put them together just like a layered cake!!! It would be so easy!!!

Thanks to whomever posted the several links. I saved the recipe in my favorites. I will need to do High Altitude directions. Are there any experienced bakers out there that know if I will need to adjust the measurements of baking sodas, flours, etc?? Thanks!

THEY ARE SOLD OUT!!!!
I cant wait to get one!
Posted by: Amanda | September 18, 2007 at 09:16 PM
I decorate cakes on the side and this is one of the best pans I think I have seen in a while. Make sure you grease the inside of the pan and the cake will come right out. Then level it with a knife or cake level. This will help the top part to sit on better. We are just about the celebrate a 1st birthday in a week... check out these invites and decoations that could go along with this pan. They have 1st birthday for boys and girls that have a cupcake theme. Have fun!

WHERE DO YOU GET THAT ADORIBLE CUPCAKE PAN???
Posted by: Suzanne Austin | September 20, 2007 at 07:37 AM
You can order this from Wilton.com. It is currently unavilable (for obvious reasons--it rocks!!). It costs $27.99. Here is the link: http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=4018F320-423B-522D-F5ECDA6F3A2ABB5E&fid=4018F33F-423B-522D-FBF3F54D6F66D28A
You can also order the large sprinkles from them. Just $3.99...here is the link to the sprinkles: http://www.wilton.com/store/site/product.cfm?id=1829AFB8-423B-522D-F191C6A3B50232AD&fid=1829AFC7-423B-522D-FCBA4AC8D0021955
Enjoy :)

Has anyone made this cake? How did you ice it? The directions above are for a different pan. I want it to be as cute as the picture. HELP!
Posted by: DeShea | September 20, 2007 at 03:27 PM
I don't think you need to buy the special sprinkles. You can just use Necco wafers.
Posted by: Daun | September 20, 2007 at 09:38 PM

I notice that the Wilton recipe is for a chocolate pound cake. Do you think this could be done with a carrot cake?--I don't want to shred all those carrots, just to find out it didn't really work.

THIS IS SO COOL. I HAVE TO GET ONE.

WHAT ARE NECCO WAFERS? WHERE DO YOU GET THEM?
Posted by: SUZANNE A. | September 22, 2007 at 09:19 AM
Necco Wafers are more like a candy. In fact, they can be found in any gas station in the candy section. They are wrapped in wax type paper in a role.

I just purchased the pan for my daughter's 2nd b-day. Has anyone made the cupcake using a box cake mix? If so, how many boxes will I need? I'm not a good baker so I need all the help I can get:)
Posted by: rebecca | September 22, 2007 at 09:22 PM
Uggh La Sur won't have them until Oct 26th...Too late for my son's 1st b-day. Does anyone know if they will be in stores?
Posted by: Jessica | September 23, 2007 at 03:55 PM
I would love to find this pan. Not available on either sites mentioned. Help if you know of any where else.
Posted by: angela | September 23, 2007 at 06:42 PM
Love this too! Wilton also makes another cupcake CAKE pan that creates more of a flat cupcake, as opposed to the 3-dimensional one....just thought I would pass that on to anyone else who now has the cupcake idea in their head! (and can't find anywhere that is selling the pan!) I found it at my local Michaels store! I baked my cake today (practice birthday cake) and it turned out really cute too!
