Hey, Goody-Lookin!
Congrats to Martha, our gorgeous GoodyBlog reader from Oklahoma City, whose question was chosen for our first ever 'Hey, Goody-Lookin' post. Here's her dilemma: Models always have these eyes where you can clearly see the whole lid. My problem: the bottom part of the lid is covered up. How do I apply eyeliner? I definitely don't want to look like a raccoon!
A: First of all, before you even get to the eyeliner, let’s talk about your eyelid. If your lid looks closed up, you should apply a pale eye shadow all over. It will bring the lid out, while a darker shadow will make it look pulled back. Try a shadow with a bit of iridescence in a shade like ivory, cream or sand to add a slight highlight. If you want to make the look more glam for an evening out, try a pale silver shadow.
Now, as for the eyeliner, because you don’t have a lot of space to work with, get a square, flat-tipped brush, dip it into a dark shadow and then really push the shadow into the lash base, focusing on the outer corners. Applying shadow as eyeliner makes for a much easier application. If you want a more defined look, try adding a transformer to the shadow. These products make powder shadow stay in place as eyeliner.
When you have a small eye, you should only apply the liner from the middle of the top of the lash line to the outside. Riming the entire lash line will only make you look closed up. The same applies to the bottom lash line. Stick to the outside if you want to make the eye look larger. You can also smudge the liner a bit so that it doesn’t drastically stop mid-lash line.
Many thanks to Robyn Cosio, eyebrow expert and makeup artist at Beverly Hills' Salon Maxime, for her brilliant expertise. Good luck trying out this new method, Martha, and let us know if it worked for you!
