Pass Up That Catalog—and Save a Forest

655386307_d27daf5048_m_2_5 Must be shopping season! I don't know about you, but every day when I get home I find my mailbox crammed with catalogs from all sorts of retailers. Just yesterday there was one from Lands End, where I buy hats and scarves every year; the Vermont Country Store, which sells great maple syrup; Edwards Virginia Ham, where I've gotten a delicious Christmas dinner on several occasions;  and a really cool one (and brand new for me) from Zingermans, a deli in Ann Arbor, Michigan that I plan on ordering from this year.  Now don't get me wrong -- I much prefer "catalog" shopping than shlepping to the mall.  But did you know that over eight million tons of trees are consumed each year in the production of catalogs? So all that paper, I can live without!  I can just as easily shop at the store's website—and spare a tree!  So I was thrilled when I heard about catalogchoice.org where you can asked to be taken off the mailing list of many popular retailers. Check it out.  Together, we may be able to save an entire forest!

Idle comment for a Friday afternoon... :-)
Zingerman's Deli is mentioned in the song "Deli" from the The Best of Gemini: Music for Children and Families CD. The Ann Arbor based children's duo even has a sandwich named after them at Zingerman's, #55 Gemini Rocks the House! My 22 month old son LOVES their music and that's all he wants to listen to since hearing them perform at the Detroit Zoo.

This is fantastic - thanks! This blog is such a great resource.

This website will be a great resource for the preschooler in my house.
