A Memo to J. Lo
We all fight for first dibs on the office's People subscription, and this week everyone was dying to see the "world exclusive" pics of your newborn twins. Max and Emme are darling, natch, and you look as glam as ever—but Parents staffers were kinda shocked at the photo of the babies' ornate, Versailles-like nursery, which is filled with safety hazards. We want those sweet twins to stay out of harm's way, so we're begging you....please babyproof!
• Take the pillows, stuffed animals and blankets out of the cribs—they're suffocation hazards.
• Get rid of the dramatic draped canopies hanging over the cribs, which can cause strangulation.
• Those cute bows tied onto the crib slats? Choking hazards as soon as the babies are big enough to get their hands on them.
• Throw a window guard on that open window!
Yours in safety,
Parents

And did she give her kids the same names as the kids from Dragontales?

Let's give them a little credit. I'm sure they decked everything out for the photo shoot. I have full confidence that they don't need us to point out to them to cover the window before the twins start walking.

This is hilarious. You made me laugh! I was just looking at my own copy of the same People magazine and my! you're right--those baby things are super cute and look e-x-p-e-n-s-i-v-e, LOL... I was drooling.
But, yes--they are safety hazards. Reading this, J Lo and Marc???? :)
Posted by: Jocelyn | March 27, 2008 at 09:03 PM
I have a feeling that the nursery was extremely decked out for the picture. They need it to be extravagant for viewers. I don't think we should rain on their parade, their new parents! What you pointed out as safety hazards, ARE safety hazards. Hopefully they recognize that.
Posted by: Katie | March 27, 2008 at 11:11 PM
Way to go, Goody Blog! No matter how "decked out" for the photos this nursery was, it WAS opened to the public and many, many people might not recognize what the safety issues are. Even if Marc and JLo are aware of the hazards, it's completely appropriate for Goody Blog to point it out - others may not be so aware, or too caught up in the "pretties."

Oh, God! I thought the same thing when I saw those photos.
Posted by: melissa warren | March 28, 2008 at 09:35 AM
Thank you... I couldn't focus on anything but the hazards in those photos! Here's hoping they were just showing off and really know better.
Posted by: Tracy Krieg | March 28, 2008 at 10:59 AM
safety 1st. i want to see the pictures now.
that is so funny michelle pointed out the dragontale's kid's names are the same :)

I'm not sure why you sent me this link but since I'm here... I didn't see the photos but maybe the babies are sleeping with their parents now and aren't in the nursery yet? I know I had a lot of stuff up in my nursery that was decorative and that came out once the baby was moved in there.
Posted by: hillary | March 28, 2008 at 12:06 PM
I'm pretty sure Jennifer knows better. Anthony has other kids too, so this is not new to him. I m very happy for both of them. I trust they will be good parents.
Posted by: Lisa | March 28, 2008 at 01:23 PM
I just hope that JLo was watching the Today Show the other day and heard what they reported (Per Parents Magazine) are sold as safety products, but are actually unsafe for our kids. This is scary, as of course parents can move the pillows and other stuff, but my questions is, are there other options to the "safety proofing products" out there? I have been looking, as I have many (if not all) of the 9 products they deemed unsafe, eek!!!! One thing I did find for outlets, is SafetyCaps (www.safetycaps.com) they are larger and have holes in...so are much safer all around (I am waiting for my order to arrive, so I can start the process of making some changes around here!). Shame on those companies who make that stuff!!

OMG...you guys always trying bash talk somebody...She just had her babies do you think she wants to wake up one morning and see a magazine that has her Babies in the crib saying DeathTrap....I think u went over board with the exaggeration....The babies could hardly even move..Just Leave them alone..They try to be nice and let you have this picture and all you do is try and find negative things to say....
Posted by: Bianca | March 28, 2008 at 04:31 PM
Parent Mag,
It was a multi-million dollar photo shot...staged for a "celebrity" magazine. Why would you assume that the nursery was USED the way it was staged? The memo could have been written as "informative" for both your readers and possibly for the Muniz family, but you choose to be catty. Interesting.

Whenever I'm at Target and I see a pregnant woman adding a 4-pc. crib set that includes a bumper and quilt, I want to tell her not to waste the money. Neither of my kids ever used a quilt in their crib and bumpers pose a suffocation and climbing risk.
I thought your post was funny. If she doesn't want to be criticized, then she shouldn't pose for a national magazine (and I'm sure she got paid a pretty penny).
Posted by: Leeanthro | March 28, 2008 at 05:13 PM
There is no excuse for j.lo and Mark not to knowthe safety for their kids. J.lo have to know don't tell me while she was pregnant she never read a magazine of safety for kids everyone did. She have other friends that have kids. The thing about j.lo is that she want to be a show off instead giving the kids safety. And Mark you know that what is right for the babies too. I think that those babies are dangerous in that nursery. Spend money on charity instead.

Geez people! Relax! The piece informative and funny. Didn't ya'll get a chuckle when you first read it. Chill!
Posted by: ronnie | March 28, 2008 at 06:04 PM
Do you people know anything? It is a PHOTO SHOOT. Take a chill pill Parents Magazine and look at any other photo shoot that has babies in it, specifically celebrity babies. There are hazards every where for the PHOTO SHOOT. Give new mom J Lo some credit. She is not an idiot.
Posted by: Marcy | March 28, 2008 at 09:22 PM
The best mom and dad is Angolie and Brat. They are the best giving people and no one can't beat them. They are special parents. J.lo worried about having expensive things and want to be a diva. Is true what people say she do charity just because she don't have to pay too much taxes.
Posted by: Maribel | March 29, 2008 at 07:22 AM
WHY in this whole wide universe and beyond is the comment left by randy still up?? >:/
Posted by: M | March 29, 2008 at 09:00 AM
I'm very disappointed to read this. These babies aren't but a month old! My nursery was completely decked out with curtain canopy, mobiles, pillows, blankets, stuffed animals, and more. It was practically a show room and my daughter loves to look at the pictures of it now. When I put her to bed, the curtain remained until she was about 3 months and grabbing as did the bumper. Everything else? It got dumped on the rocking chair for the night and replaced in the morning. This picture didn't show the newborns sleeping in the cribs, it showed the gorgeous nursery. And window guards??? They can't even roll over!!! Why do folks feel like it's okay to insult these new parents simply because they are famous and can afford to have a far nicer nursery than most of us could ever dream? Perhaps instead Parents Magazine should do a spread on the nursery of the average parent. I imagine they'd have a lot more cruel and hateful comments to be able to make then.
Posted by: K-MO | March 29, 2008 at 10:50 AM
The Parents staffers really need to get a clue, those "bows" that are tied to the crib slats are the ties that are on the bumper pad to hold it up and last I checked bumper pads are put on the crib for the safety of the baby and even new mothers know to take them off when the babies get old enough. And last I checked new born babies aren't yet old enough to sit up or stand up to reach the canopies or the mobiles and strangle themselves. And yes as many people have pointed out this is a picture from a photo shoot with a magazine so things are bound to be more extravagent than normal.
Posted by: Leslie | March 29, 2008 at 11:03 AM
Dear Parent staffers,
It was a photo shoot. They wanted it to look good. Do you know what happened once the photographers left (as in, window probably shut, etc)? Neither do I. Nothing is worse than ignorant people.
Posted by: Stephanie | March 29, 2008 at 11:19 AM
I am highly dissapointed by this blog. It seems like you guys have been reading Perez Hilton too much.
This is a magazine/blog for Parents, can you show some tact?

I hope Bennifer looked and these photos and laughed as much as we all did at the office!!!! Nothing kid like in those rooms. You want a child to live to be comfortable...does that room look like it's kid proof!!!! I think not. By the way, they weren't bound to have darling kids...look at the father. Ewwww...might be a nice man, but to us, he looks like a weasel! Pray for those kids. It would be nice if they had a colorful room that babies need when they're young as ANYONE should know. Sad...very sad, that they'd rather show their money then what a child needs. Sick Jennifer...lost a lot of respect for you. I never had any for Mark. Cheater, Liar, etc. etc.

Forget the nursery...did anyone pick up on the fact that she "chose" not to breastfeed because it was "best for them." Pleeeezzzz...more like, best for HER.
Posted by: Julie | March 29, 2008 at 11:54 AM
Get over it. I hate, hate, HATE parents that think there is only one right way...and that is THEIR way.
The open window? Yeah, you're right. Those INFANTS are going to climb out of their cribs and jump up, hold onto the window, and jump through it. Definitely, I can see that happening.
The canopies? They're hung almost BEHIND the crib. And again, I doubt an INFANT is going to get up, grab the tightly put in canopy, and wrap it around themselves. Come on...please.
Clearly we should all dump our babies on the floor in a clean, white room with nothing in it and no windows. That way they can't kick the crib by accident and risk breaking a toe. Or that little infant that REALLY wants out that window? He could break a nail on the window guard.
Posted by: meghan | March 29, 2008 at 11:55 AM
Just because a baby can't roll over/sit up/barely move doesn't mean those items don't pose a suffocation hazard. What if they fell on the baby while sleeping? As a parent, we all know that we find our little ones standing, rolling, etc. when least expected.
Yes, maybe it is a photo shoot staged nursery, but there are people who look up to celebrities that may not know of the safety risks in using these items in and near the crib. They may want a nursery "just like JLo's".
I get so peeved when I see automobile advertisements with the children harnessed incorrectly in carseats. To me this is the same type of annoyance.
*Standing up and applauding Parents for pointing out the risks*
Posted by: Kellie | March 29, 2008 at 11:58 AM
Arent the scrolls on top of the crib more dangerous than not having window guards? A baby could get their head stuck in there or catch clothing on the edges. I thought they werent allowed to sell cribs with cutouts and things??? Did she get them from another country?
Posted by: angelbunny17 | March 29, 2008 at 11:58 AM
Oh, and to the person with the breastfeeding comment above mine. You have NO IDEA why she is choosing not to breastfeed. Everyone reallly needs to stop that debate. There will always be breastfeeding and there will always be bottle feeding. It is NO ONE'S business what is best for someone else.
My best friend can't breastfeed because she had surgery on both breasts to remove lumps and they went through the nipples, which have left them extremely uncomfortable to the touch. You would not believe comments she gets from total strangers.
Everyone needs to mind their own business and this world would be a better place.
Posted by: meghan | March 29, 2008 at 11:58 AM
LMAO...as a mom of twins...I know how proud parents can be! The nursery is awesome!!! So many of us out there would have given an eye tooth for twins...lets all back off a bit and let the parents of those beautiful twins enjoy the moment...do you really think that they would allow danger to seep into their babies nursery?? Give them some credit...I doubt at this time they can roll over let alone CHOKE or Fall from a window...COME on now...lol I'm sure the no no's will be changed as they grow!!! ;)

Posted by: Angelica | March 29, 2008 at 12:29 PM
This probably isn't even the real nursery. I mean, if I were super famous, I wouldn't let a national magazine publish a picture of where my babies actually slept, there are way too many crazies out there.
This is probably the dining room all done up to look like the kind of nursery you'd expect JLo to have. The kids probably sleep in a crib in their parents' room like most babies. Besides, how many people do you know who buy two cribs for a set of twins? People just pop them in the same one.
Posted by: Jennifer Armintrout | March 29, 2008 at 12:53 PM
Please. Everyone decorates the nursery for visitors, or in this case, photographers. And then converts it to functional mode for normal day-to-day living. Lighten up!
Posted by: Allison | March 29, 2008 at 01:01 PM
What is the point of the comment, "Mexicans trying to be White, period!"? Kendall, neither J. Lo or Marc Anthony are Mexican. Stay on the topic and don't make it a racial issue.
As parents we've all done things that we NOW realize are safety hazards.

No, she may NOT be an idiot, but there's TONS of morons who read people magazine, who will see that crap in the baby cribs and think that it's OKAY to have pillows & stuffed animals in a baby crib, which it's NOT okay even if the babies are newborns. You should NEVER put stuff like that in a crib, no matter how young/old the infant is. There are tons of people out there who want to emulate her, so you can see how this would be dangerous to someone who has less common sense, right?

Re: Posted by: kendall | March 29, 2008 at 11:43 AM
Get your ethnic backgrounds straight...they are Puertorrican not Mexican.
When I had my kids my nursery had all that stuff but not that 'expensive', but as another proud parent stated, we are proud of what we can provide for our children and the bumpers moved to the rocker once they were older!
Posted by: Lourdes | March 29, 2008 at 01:33 PM
I never think of Photo Shoots as real life, whether it is a celebrity or not
Posted by: AThinker | March 29, 2008 at 02:45 PM
bla, bla, bla..the saftety points will more than likely be addressed when those babies get older. I'm sure they've hired "the best" to help them with baby proofing. The thing that is more upsetting to me is the vulgarity of this photo shoot. The amount of money they recieved to show their "precious" babies is enough to make one barf. Let alone the babies "nursery." The audacity and "better than thou" feeling I get reading the article and seeing these ridiculous photos of the glamed up pair is grostesque. Yes, they are famous, talented and mega rich, but I don't not need to hear what a "great mom Jen is" when she has round the clock nannies..and how much "fun it is to both wake up at 3am when the twins wake up." Makes the rest of us feel lousy with our first time mom experiences. Why not take some of the money that was used to design the obnoxious nursery and put it to use for kids who have watered down milk because the family can't afford formula..or better yet Jen and Marc, why not donate the money from this ridiculous spread?
Posted by: disgusted | March 29, 2008 at 03:20 PM
come on. she worked her whole life, made a lot of money and if she wants to spoil her kids then let her! ... Boo Boo Busters already said the cribs are fine and there is nothing to worry about .. so stay off her back.
Posted by: abc123 | March 29, 2008 at 03:33 PM
Don't forget the CRIB BUMPERS!! Every new parent gets these but they are consistently rated as a top suffocation hazard- no one should ever have crib bumpers
Posted by: wendy | March 29, 2008 at 04:31 PM
I am going to presume that you are trying to increase circulation of your mag. Why else would you make such an insipid statement to an obviously dramatized photo? Before you came out in such a harsh way, did you contact Ms. Lopez or her publicist to determine if the picture represented the way the nursery usually stands? Too much work for you, or was it that you would have preferred that her pictures were in your magazine? cha-ching?
Great show of media restraint...
Posted by: John Lincoln | March 29, 2008 at 05:35 PM
Oh good lord get over yourself people I seriously doubt those babies even sleep in there. Quit being so dramatic.
Posted by: genna | March 29, 2008 at 06:01 PM
i am sure it was for the photo shoot only.
Posted by: jlo fan | March 29, 2008 at 07:46 PM
Whether or not this is their ACTUAL nursery is besides the point. They are putting it out there for all their fans (with babies of all ages) to see--and copy. And that is incredibly irresponsible on their part as well as People magazine's. Istead of attacking Parents--for doing their job on pointing out safety issues, I might add--maybe we should be criticizing People for producing such images.
