The Cake of Celebrities
What types of decadent deserts do A-listers like Oprah Winfrey, Courtney Cox, Jessica Simpson and Adam Sandler dive into after a gourmet meal? Well, goodies designed by famous cake artisan Sam Godfrey, of Perfect Endings, of course. And now these over-the-top, giant sized Sweet Celebration cakes will be making birthday party cameos outside of tinsel town too - you can buy yours through 1-800-Flowers.com, just be willing to dish out the dough (each cake costs $89.99!).
We were lucky enough to taste test them here at GoodyBlog HQ (the self-proclaimed home of the giant-cupcake) this week and almost everyone agreed that they're beautifully and meticulously crafted, rich and chocolatey in taste, and seriously giant! (For proof, see photo of fellow GoodyBloggers Janna and Rachel below.) So we ask, would you spend the cash for a bunch of 5-year-olds to devour a cake of this caliber at your kid's birthday party? What about your next birthday bash? Give us the scoop!

Not a chance would I spend that for a bunch of kiddos to devour it, but, I would try my hand at making something similar. These are adorable.

NO WAY !! I buy my children's birthday cakes from a local grocery store ( approx. $ 22.00 ) What a waste of money, the kids don't know how to cherish this..A cake is a cake to a child..This would be great for a special occasion like a reunion or a baby shower, adults would appreciate a treasure like this !

I'm sure the cakes are great and they are very neat but I don't think I would pay that much for the size that they are. At least not every year, especially with three kids' birthdays. You usually can find someone in a smaller town or who just does it for fun to make quite the creation for half of that. My daughter had a 3-teir first birthday cake that was decorated with pink and brown and was beautiful. Only cost me $45. Looked like it was about $250.

There must be a huge commission for 1800 to carry the cakes on their web site. Why do folks order from third party order gatherers like that? Why not order direct? Why not support local businesses and local cake crafters? We have exported all our jobs to other countries.....can't we support local cake makers?

I wouldn't spend $$$ for this caliber cake for my young child's birthday party, but maybe for an older child's birthday as a special treat (12 or older). If you are the least bit crafty, cakes are totally do-able. I never dreamed I could crank out an Elmo cake for my daughter's 2nd birthday, but I did it, and it looked AMAZING. It was much easier than I imagined and I would definitely attempt a fondant cake on my own for a few $ first a few weekends before the party rather than part with $90 + shipping for a "gourmet" cake that has been frozen for weeks only to "defrost" on its way to my home in the UPS truck. I don't care what you say, nothing beats homemade and if your child knows YOU made it and spent hours thinking up the idea and working on the design then it will mean even more to her (in a few years, okay - maybe when she's grown and has children of her own, but at least she'll know how hard you worked on something special just for her).
