Mix-In Mania!
It's National Ice Cream Month! Yup, in 1984, Ronald Reagan dedicated July to this frozen dessert. In honor of summer's best sweet treat, we asked ice cream experts for a few healthy mix-in ideas to spruce up a plain ol' cone. Cold Stone Creamery's Senior Tastemaster suggests vanilla ice cream with chopped up granola bars and yogurt chips, and the Reeses-aholic in me started drooling at his idea of chocolate ice cream with a spoonful of peanut butter swirled in (I'm thinking of tossing a few banana slices into this one, too!) The ice cream connoisseurs at Whole Foods Market recommend throwing in some yogurt-covered pretzels for a sweet and salty combo. Like the chewy texture of gummy candies in your ice cream? They say to try dried fruit instead, like cranberries or papaya.
Does your family go above and beyond sprinkles with your ice cream mix-ins? Share your faves!!
