More Halloween 2007: Meet Optimus Prime

Who says Halloween is a kids' holiday? On the heels of Judy's Flintstones post, I had to post this awesome YouTube video of a friend of a friend's Transformers costume, which actually transforms! How crazy creative is this.

Last Minute Halloween

Don't be ashamed...it happens.  It's totally possible to get overwhelmed by Halloween-- we often get over-ambitious with our crafting (occasionally sewing machines are not our friends) and sometimes we put all of our creative juices into our kids costumes, leaving us adults bankrupt of good Halloween ideas.  So if you find yourself sans costume on this Halloween day...relax and don't panic, there are many last minute options for you...

Do you have a broken, flimsy black umbrella stashed at the bottom of your closet (New Yorkers, you know the ones)?  Evil Mad Scientist has found this clever way of transforming it into bat wings.  A black hooded sweatshirt is all you need to complete this amazing, re-purposed costume.

Or get inspired by the World's Laziest Halloween Costumes... sometimes color is all you need!

And lastly, if you are toting around your little one, just doll up your baby sling carrier with a few simple details and you've got two costumes in one.  Thanks to Mamma's Milk for all of these adorable sling ideas!

I don't care what anyone says, Halloween is not just for the kids!

Have a very Happy Halloween!!!

Stay Safe This Halloween!

1574407712_4427c50801_m Witches and goblins don't come close to being as scary as this stat: according to the AAP, there are four times the average number of deaths for children between the ages of five and fifteen due to pedestrian/motor vehicle accidents on Halloween. When your kids go trick or treating tomorrow night, keep these safety tips from automotive expert Lauren Fix in mind:

Warn children to cross the street only at intersections. More than half of child pedestrian casualties involve children darting into the street between intersections.

Instruct children to always walk facing traffic, and avoid trick-or-treating on busy streets.
If a costume is particularly dark or camouflages with surroundings, apply reflective stickers or tape to make your child more visible to drivers.
Have children carry a flashlight or glow stick while walking between houses to enhance visibility.
Make sure children can see out of their costumes. Avoid using masks that may impair the child's vision.

Have a fun and safe Halloween!!!

Dogs in Halloween Costumes: Never Not Funny

Image_2

Okay, I know this is GoodyBlog and not Cute Overload, but I really cannot in good conscience keep this photo of French bulldogs dressed as the cast of The Wizard of Oz to myself. This is adorable artistry at its finest, people. Thank you, Seattlefrenchbulldogs.com, for making my Halloween.

What Are You Eating Before Trick or Treating?

Calzones_2

I've been doing a lot of thinking about what to make for dinner before the candy-binge begins tomorrow night. I think it's good idea to serve something hearty and filling—that way at least the kids won't be eating candy out of hunger. But it has to be something they really love otherwise they'll be too excited to sit still and chow it down. I saw these Calzones on dachsies and design—they might be a contender 'cause they look so fun. The recipe is here (but I would just follow the part about making them witch hatty. Or what about these Chicken Chilaquiles from Shelterrific?

Shelter_chip_dish_2

I clipped this ages ago, but I forgot about it until just now. Basically it's a nacho casserole—I'd leave out the chicken 'cause one of my kids is a vegetarian—but I could mix some other tasty things in. Are these good ideas? What are you all making? Can we come over for dinner?

Two All Beef Patties, Special Sauce, Lettuce...on a Pumpkin Seed Pumpkin?

The creativity in the world of pumpkin carving never ceases to amaze me!  Unknown3 If you choose to go the burger route with your pumpkin this year and you want your porch to be rodent free, I would recommend a burger made from brown- painted pillow batting, green felt lettuce, cheese fashioned out of yellow mailing envelopes, and red peanut butter jar lids for tomatoes!  Perhaps some yellow squash in a bucket on the side as fries.

Thanks to Make Magazine's blog for this pumpkin that warrants a double take.
