Cheat Sheet: 5 Totally Unique Parenting Tips

There's a lot of advice out there on the interwebs. Here are my favorites from last week.

1) Tricks of the Trade has a great insider tip from a librarian on how to read a book to a young child.

2) Mommy Poppins tells us about snacks that will help our kids do better in school. Did you know that crunchy and chewy foods help make them more alert by engaging their senses? Or that sipping or sucking can help organize and calm children? I did not.

3) Parenthacks shares a cool idea: Make your bathroom mirror an information center. Read how and why.

4) Z Recommends is all about raising chickens with little kids—in the city no less.

5) Recover Girl realizes that the importance of staying one step ahead of her kids. How does she do it? By laying book traps around the house. via daddytypes

Aye Aye Caption!

266391949_86f0bb5861_m We can think of no better way to kick off the weekend than with another round of Goody Blog's own write-your-own-caption contest! (Sure, getting a hug from Oprah would be nice start, too, but we're not holding our breath.)

Now, this contest is purely for fun (simmer down!), but entering just might help you out on the karmic end of things in terms of nabbing one of the amazing Goody Bags we're giving away on this site. You never know. ; )

For those of you new to the site and/or new to Aye Aye Caption, the rules are quite simple: Check out the photo to the right, and come up with a funny, witty, clever caption for it. 'Nuff said. Make your caption as zany and out-there as you want. (We're big fans of goofy, random humor in these parts.) Then post your suggested caption, and check back here next Friday to see who we thought had the funniest entry. Although we're sure they'll all be funny cause we have the hippest, most with-it readers on the Internet! (One hug, Oprah: Would it kill you?)

Goody luck, everyone, and have a goody time with it! Can't wait to see what you all come up with ...

Dad to Speeding Motorists: Cut It Out!

CutoutkidsIn what may be the greatest parent hack of all times, Mike Wood, an Ohio dad, got totally fed up with cars going 55 miles an hour down his street. So what did he do? Created life-sized cardboard cut-outs of his kids using a high-resolution printer and outdoor vinyl and put them on the side of the road ! Not only has this slowed down the drivers, but sheriffs have requested that he make some for them too (not of kids mind you, but of Johnny Law). Read the rest of the story at WKYC News (where they actually printed the poor guy's phone number.) Link thanks to spluch.
