Adobe Media Player

Parentstvimage I downloaded Adobe's newest free application this weekend: Adobe Media Player (AMP). Although I do have other media-viewing programs, I've really taken a shine to this one. It's a slick little program, which automatically downloads and sets aside video content for your perusal. Although the list of content providers is small currently, it's bound to collect more sources, including Comedy Central* in the near future.

So how does this relate to parenting? The video-based division of the magazine, Parents.tv, already has a good collection of useful stories posted. The segment on DiY baby food was especially cool, considering I'm into that sort of thing.

It's a free download and it's handy (did I mention that it's free?) so check it out!

How To Be A Better Man

How To Be A Better Man from girl born on wednesday on Vimeo. According to three boys—one of them being my son Oliver (he's the one reading Freud). This was made by my best friend's daughter Sonya! I think it's really poignant, because I think there's a lot in our child-raising culture about raising strong girls. But not so much when it comes to boys. What would be on your list? Fathers, can you weigh in too?

Monday Morning Laugh

You can never be sure how little kids will react to anything you put in front of them. But I guess when a baby meets an adorable French bulldog, a simple pat on the head just won't do.

Live from Toy Fair: It's tour time!

It's the final day of Toy Fair, and let's just say things got a little, well, bananas. The Uglydoll drama from yesterday continued (don't worry–there's a happy ending), fellow GoodyBlogger and today's vlog co-host Taryn got way too up close and personal with a giant stuffed bear, dinosaurs are no longer extinct apparently, and oh yeah...we finally take you on that Toy Fair tour we've been promising.

Live from Toy Fair: When mascots attack!

Remember on Monday when I was talking about overzealous mascots? Well, here's my video evidence. Oh, you Uglydolls (*fist raised in the air*)...you just wait!

BTW, don't forget to start here to check out the first vlog in the series.

Live from Toy Fair: A sneak peek

This is just a sneak peek, but tomorrow we'll post videos that put you right in the middle of the action. Check out our intro clip below, and remember to come back for more blogs and (and now vlogs).

PS. Sorry for the qualityI need a new camera (hint, hint).

Pocket-sized Video Camera

Pink_flip_ultra Check out this totally cool and convenient new tech item - the Flip Video Camcorder! There's no clumsy uploading cords, no bulking carrying case, and no battery packs (takes AA). And the sleek, compact design (not even 5" tall!!!) is perfect for busy parents. Just drop it in your diaper bag so you'll always be ready to capture the "firsts" in your kids' lives.

The Flip is really simple to use too! Just turn it on (it only takes 3 seconds to boot!) and start filming. It holds up to 30 or 60 minutes of streaming video. Once the memory is full, just use the flip-out USB arm to upload and share those memories in minutes.

LOVE IT!

Princess Alert: Meet The World's Most Spoiled Child

SpoiledBefore you do anything else today check out this video clip, from last weeks episode of Wife Swap. You might  think this is some kind of hoax or parody—but sadly you'd be wrong. Here's a story about the parents where they confirm that they do indeed have a Christmas tree up year-round and yes, Alicia does get a present everyday! Seriously, I know reality TV distorts things and all, but still I would actually like to rescue that kid from her misguided parents. Or at least find out where she ends up five years from now (shuddering as I try and imagine).

Have an Elmo-riffic Holiday!

Elmoschristmascountdown10Jot this down in your calendar now: Elmo's Christmas Countdown airs on ABC this Sunday the 23rd at 7:00. We know that the mere presence of certain fuzzy red guy is enough to make your kids happy, but there plenty of cool guest stars to entertain you too, including Ty Pennington, Sheryl Crow, Jamie Fox, and Anne Hathaway. (Just the sight of the Sopranos' Steven Schirripa and Tony Sirico dressed up as Ernie and Bert is killing me.) If you and your kids want a sneak preview, check out the clips on ABC’s Web site here.
